My work is a reflection of my everyday experiences. I use found repeating patterns and create scenes taken from my everyday life. I incorporate iconic logos and brands into my work to illustrate the way consumerism and identity are interwoven within American culture. I use heart motifs in my work to symbolize home, comfort, and sentimental attachment. I am interested in using paper, usually thought of as a 2D material, to create 3D objects. I am inspired by origami and product packaging. When familiar, mundane objects are transformed into something new, viewers recall their experiences with the object and thinks deeper about the relationship they have with it.

I have been an artist all my life. I believe everyone is born an artist. As a kid, I loved making things. I loved to craft and draw. It was like real life magic, the power to make anything you can imagine real. My father was an artist. My mom taught me to sew when I was young. I learned to knit and crochet in an elementary after school program. High school teachers scolded me for twirling my hair and persistently doodling in my notebooks. Art has always been my lifeline, my way of understanding myself and the world around me. I graduated from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in printmaking in 2019. I live and work in Philadelphia.

My art is a celebration of the simple things. Sort of like putting a magnifying glass on the small details of the world. I think of making art as a ritual. This is reflected in my art through visual patterns and repetitive processes of making art. I like using found objects and repurposed materials. I see everyday objects as tender artifacts. I draw inspiration from my daily life and environments. I incorporate symbols and patterns found in weavings, cross stitch, quilts, tile, bricks and wrought iron. These references are a recognition of and appreciation for labor performed by women and immigrants, and the working class. References to textiles and architectural ornamentation also acts as a metaphor for comfort, home, and feelings of belonging. I’m inspired by childhood and nostalgia. I believe children have an innate creativity and imagination. I use art as a way to connect back to that scene of whimsy and wonder I felt as a kid making things just for the fun of it.
